CNN's data reporter, Harry Enten, recently brought attention to a troubling statistic that could present a significant hurdle for Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign as the election nears. According to Enten, only 28 percent of Americans believe that the United States is heading in the right direction under the leadership of the Democratic party.

Enten emphasized the historical context of this figure, highlighting that in years when the incumbent party wins the presidency, the average percentage of Americans believing the country is on the right track stands at 42 percent and only at 25 percent when it loses. He pointed out that this low percentage aligns more with historical trends of losing campaigns rather than winning ones, indicating potential trouble for Harris.

Furthermore, Enten underscored the significance of this statistic by comparing it to historical data, noting that in previous years, when the incumbent party secured victory, the lowest percentage of Americans believing the country was on the right track was 39 percent. With only 28 percent holding this belief, Enten suggested it would be "historically unprecedented" for the White House party to win another term.

The polling data has painted a complex picture for Harris and her opponent, former President Donald Trump. While Harris initially saw an uptick in her election chances following positive reviews of her debate performance against Trump, recent polls have revealed surprising support for Trump among Latino voters, who traditionally lean Democratic. Despite Trump's history of controversial remarks about Latinos, the polls indicated 40 percent in favor of him, marking a 12-year low for Democratic nominees.

Both candidates intensively campaign in battleground states just 32 days from the general election, so the race remains fiercely competitive and dynamic.
