J. R. Bowling, a candidate for Alabama Senate District 4, joined the BCS. State of Alabama podcast recently. He perceives a lack of leadership in the Alabama legislature saying; "From the results we've seen over this last session, I'm going to say it's the whole legislature. I'm not saying everybody's bad, but, uh, you know, without the right leadership, you know, it's, it's, uh, that kind of the results you get out of a, out of anything is determined on the leadership."
What things that did not get passed that you think should have:
"Uh, well, they kicked the overtime bill down the road. Uh, Yeah, they let that expire. They let that expire. They didn't address, as one of the library bills wasn't addressed. They went down the rabbit hole again with our two Second Amendment rights. Seems like, you know, we're letting Democrats out of Birmingham dictate what we do with gun legislation in the state. I wasn't real happy with that. You went in and Made a state law for something that was already illegal federally."
" So, uh, there's just a lot of the Glock switch ban, the Glock switch ban. I mean, criminals aren't buying this, this stuff out of the local gun shops. So wasting taxpayers time and money, passing bills that are already federally legal to begin with. You're, you're not doing us any favors. Uh, that does"
On what got you in the race;
"It is the Smith Lake bills. What we call it locally. They passed a bill letting the of Coleman annex land at Smith Lake, 30 miles outside of the city limits into the city against the wishes of the county citizens and of the county commission. County commission passed a resolution opposing the bill. We also had no representation in the state house. Both of our representatives had already resigned by this point."
The GOP primary will be held next May. Senator Garlan
Gudger currently represents the district.
