Alabama Agricultural Commissioner Rick Pate, kind enough to give me a few minutes out of his hectic schedule, talked with me yesterday. And what an enjoyable chat.
For those of you who have never spoken to the Commissioner, let me tell you he is just a down-to-earth, good Ole country boy who is as friendly as a person as one could meet.
When I first called Rick, I left a message, and promptly returned my call and set a date for our conversation because he was preparing to go to the national rodeos finals. Now that is as country as a turnip!
Rick is a colorful man that voters will draw themselves to if he decides to seek higher office. I told him I had heard he was a dark horse candidate for Governor, to which he laughed, saying, "If I told anybody that before my wife, we would both be in trouble." I hope he stays in public service. That's the kind of down-home type man we need as a leader.
