​TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, AL — Robert McCollum, Republican candidate for Tallapoosa County Commission District 4, has announced a landmark proposal to eliminate county property taxes. If successful, the initiative would make Tallapoosa the first county in Alabama to move toward a property-tax-free model, providing significant long-term relief to local homeowners and landowners.

​McCollum’s plan focuses on a strategic transition to ensure the county remains fiscally responsible while ending the cycle of annual tax payments:

• ​For New Property Purchases: Buyers would pay the equivalent of 10 years of property taxes upfront at closing. Once this initial payment is made, no further county property taxes would ever be owed on that property.

• ​For Current Owners: The plan features a five-year phase-out. Residents would see their tax burden drop by 20% each year until it reaches zero.
