LINEVILLE, Ala. — With the Republican primary just days away, U.S. Senate candidate Rodney Walker has released a strategic infrastructure platform aimed at modernization and economic resilience. The plan, titled the "Four Foundations," targets critical bottlenecks in Alabama’s transportation, maritime, healthcare, and energy sectors.
Strengthening the Spine of Alabama
The centerpiece of Walker’s proposal is the widening of Interstate 65. Walker advocates for expanding the highway to six lanes from Huntsville to Mobile, arguing that the current four-lane configuration hampers freight movement and economic growth. "I-65 is the spine of Alabama’s economy," Walker stated, noting that the project must become a federal priority to keep pace with the state's rising population.
Expanding Port and Rural Access
To bolster international trade, Walker is calling for the dredging of the Alabama River. By removing sandbars and improving navigation, the plan seeks to maximize traffic flow to the Port of Mobile, ensuring it remains a competitive gateway for Alabama-made goods.
Transitioning from trade to public health, Walker’s platform includes a focus on federal payment reform to stabilize rural hospitals. Describing these facilities as "not optional," the candidate emphasized that protecting rural health infrastructure is a matter of community survival.
Modernizing the Power Grid
Addressing the surge in electricity demand from data centers and advanced manufacturing, Walker highlighted the need for a more robust power grid. His strategy involves engaging with innovative energy firms to explore grid-modernization and hydrogen system designs.
Specifically, Walker mentioned his engagement with VIVIFY Technology, a Florida-based firm specializing in emissions control and clean energy concepts. A Clay County rancher and veteran of the fuel industry, Walker is positioning himself as a "solutions man" rather than a career politician. "This campaign is not about rhetoric," Walker said. "It is about solving real problems for the people of Alabama."
With the primary scheduled for May 19, Walker is urging voters to choose a platform focused on the practical infrastructure required to lead the Southeast in the coming decade.
