Meet Rusty Glover. He is running for Alabama state auditor against three other candidates. I had a sit-down interview with him a while back.
Rusty is in it for the people, not himself. He almost went broke serving in the legislature. At least if you let him tell it. Combined with his teacher salary, he earned probably close to $100,000 a year, not to mention his $100 a day per diem if it's an overnight stay and 58 cents per mile when traveling. By the way that is almost double what a truck driver gets paid per mile in case you're wondering. Not to say, the few little dollars the lobbyist can spend on him he didn't hurt.
I've ask him how come with a republican trifecta nothing can
get accomplished in Montgomery. He responded, "oh, they get a lot done." When I informed him that we were now ranked 52nd in some categories behind the territories, he responded, "well, you need to ask them." With that statement, am I supposed to believe that Alabama ranked high in categories during his time in the legislature? And the decline began after he left office?
