On the BCS. State of Alabama podcast with co- host Brandon Moseley Agriculture Commission candidate Christina Mccinnis addressed the biggest obstacle facing her candidacy.
When asked if she was concerned that voters might perceive the Ag commissioner as a "man's job," and how would she overcome these pre convinced notions she had this to say.
"I asked somebody the other day, I said, what do you consider my number one obstacle I have to overcome? And they didn't even miss a beat. They said, you're a girl. I was like, okay. All right. You
think that's my number one obstacle in life? I'm a girl. So how do I overcome that? Can't change that. I'm going to remain a girl.Good news is I'm staying female. Thank you for sending the Biden administration."
"I'm going to go radical here. So the good news is I'm just going to have to go with what I was raised by Grandma Lily, my Gigi, my third daughter, Charlene, is named after Joanne, and my first daughter's named after Lily, and then my mama. I mean, look, I saw those ladies go through tons of hardship, and their ingenuity is what saved the farms. My Grandma Lily, so she had six boys, two girls, and the farm saw horrible, horrible times, but they were growing great stuff out of the farm. And she said, but you can't connect to the customers."
"She opened our first ever city garden center and it's what saved the company. Gigi, Big Pawpaw was out on the farm, did amazing sweet potatoes. She opened a gas station in Alberta and served soft cream and gas and other things to help keep the family afloat. My mom lived in a single wild with my dad. They had my older sister, Angela and Frederick came in and a tornado took them out and they struggled."
She continued "The Bank City loan of money to rebuild a house and they were trying to build a family. Someone so graciously stepped up to help our family get financing, but she had to grow a garden in the five acres around the house to sell in the front yard to make the mortgage. I think although this will be considered my largest obstacle is the fact I'm a girl, I think it gives me a perspective to look at this with a different set of and address problems in a different way.
So rest assured, we've had a lot of time with the man at the wheel. Let's just see what a girl's gonna do at the wheel. But the good news is, and I will emphasize this, I don't wanna make it about a gender issue. I've got some really great men in my life who are in my ear. My dad and my husband and my father-in-law, I have been blessed to be, they are my number one cheerleaders. When I turn around, I mean, that's key also."
"So don't want to harp on that. Let me just say this, She opened our first ever city garden center and it's what saved the company.
"So don't want to harp on that. Let me just say this, you're not going to see me play victim on the fact I'm a girl."
The Alabama GOP primary will be held in May 2026.
