Hypocrisy on the Horizon: Why Rhett Marques is Only in It for Himself

When politicians like Rhett Marques talk about public service, it is worth looking past the rhetoric and examining the record. The pattern is clear, and the conclusion is inescapable: this man is only in it for himself.

While serving on the Enterprise City Council, Marques voted for a massive pay increase and expanded year-end bonuses for city employees. Yet, when it comes to the hardworking taxpayers footing the bill, his legislative history tells a very different story.

During his council tenure, Enterprise residents saw a half-cent sales tax increase passed, and the city's debt ballooned to staggering heights—surpassing the national debt on a per capita basis.

It is the classic playbook of a politician who loves spending other people's money while padding his own pockets. Beyond his tax-and-spend record on the council, Marques's business history reveals a trail of over $100,000 in federal and state tax liens slapped against his auto business, even as he later managed to secure a $71,675 Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan.

This is the third or fourth time this month we are seeing the same story: leadership that is soft on crime, eager to stick it to everyday citizens with higher taxes and fees, and entirely focused on financial self-enrichment. Rhett Marques loves raising your taxes, but when the dust settles, his record proves he is only looking out for number one.
