House District 50 Democratic Candidate Alan Thomas Discusses Campaign Platform and Grassroots Advocacy

Staff Writer October 22, 2026
Alan Thomas, the Democratic candidate running for Alabama House District 50, joined Christopher M. Peeks, owner of the Alabama Political Contributor website, on The BCS: The State of Alabama podcast to discuss his campaign to represent West St. Clair County—including Springville, Argo, Margaret, Odinville, Moody, and Cook Springs.
Marking the first challenged election in District 50 in over two decades, Thomas highlighted how suburban growth and an influx of new residents have transformed the area's political and community landscape.
Throughout the discussion, Thomas outlined key legislative priorities for his prospective term in Montgomery. His goals include repealing HB445 (which placed hemp and CBD products under ABC Board regulation) and SB71 (regarding corporate environmental compliance).
Additionally, he voiced support for eliminating the state grocery tax, expanding Medicaid, resolving local traffic and rail congestion bottlenecks, and reforming the Public Service Commission.
On policy and justice issues, Thomas discussed proposals for prison reform, increasing parole consideration rates, and passing legislation to enforce strict collection and testing timelines for child abuse investigation kits in healthcare settings.
Pointing to his background in journalism, public policy, and active community service, Thomas highlighted ongoing constituent work during the campaign—including resolving SNAP benefit delivery failures and helping secure out-of-state medical care approval for a local teenager—as central to his platform of independent advocacy.
