Alabama Politics is Blood Sport: The Smear Campaign Against State Auditor Andrew Sorrell

The game of Alabama politics is, maybe more so than other states of the American Republic, one of blood sport. The 1970 Wallace-Brewer and 1986 Baxley-Graddick runoffs quickly come to mind. The game is dirty, and the 2026 elections in the Yellowhammer State appear no different, as we see with the character assassination of State Auditor Andrew Sorrell.

This mess all began a few months ago when word broke that Auditor Sorrell received donations and invested with a Georgia man accused of running a 140-million-dollar Ponzi scheme. That is where the story should have ended. However, this soon turned into a wildfire, burning out of control.

First, Secretary of State Wes Allen, in a rush to judgment, interjected himself into the fray by overstepping his boundaries, demanding Sorrell return the campaign contributions. Still not sure who made Allen the moral authority on this. The state's ethics committee and Attorney General are the governing bodies on these matters.

Next, Caroleene Dobson began making innuendos about Sorrell committing some type of misdeed. At this point, the vultures were circling. The liberal media pounced, attempting to convict Sorrell in the court of public opinion.

AL.com, Alabama Reflector, and of course, far-left Alabama Political Reporter pounced. Liberal Josh Moon wrote one of his hit pieces. Remember, he is the one who accused Dobson, in her race for Congress against Shammari Figures, of having KKK ties—from the 1870s.

By next May, no one will remember this, but what the fake news media attempted to do to Sorrell, spearheaded by Dobson's whisper campaign, is a disgusting display, a blackwash of the facts in an attempt to turn voters against Sorrell. Why? They want to stop the maverick politician who is not controlled by the powers that be.

I think Sorrell has weathered the storm and this ploy has backfired on the perpetrators. Just another example of how you cannot trust anything coming from our biggest news sources. If they told me the sun rose in the east and set in the west, I would call them a liar. Sorrell is not only innocent of any wrongdoing, but he was also a victim, and if I tell you a rooster dips snuff, you can look under his wing for the can.
