Dr. Will Boyd, a candidate for governor in next year's May Democratic primary, recently joined the BCS—State of Alabama, or Brandon and Christopher Show—with co-host Brandon Moseley.
Dr. Boyd, who previously ran for Lt. Governor in 2018 as the Democratic nominee, as well as for the U.S. Senate in 2022, had this to say on why he has now set his sights on the governor's office:
> “Well, my whole goal has always been to make sure I provide a shot for every Alabamian to have an opportunity to succeed. In simple words—I state I want every Alabamian to have a shot at the American dream. So, obviously, as governor, I can do more to impact the state here for every one of our 67 counties, serving as governor, the chief executive.”
On the question of what it means to be a Democrat in 2025, Dr. Boyd replied:
> “What does it mean to be a Democrat today? I think a Democrat is someone who is very inclusive of all people, someone who really wants to work for all of Alabama.”
Dr. Boyd, highly educated with an extensive background in education as a business professor—as well as numerous members of his family serving in various roles—holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of South Carolina, an MBA from Regis University, and doctorates in Religion, Psychology, and Organizational Management. He had this to say about the CHOOSE Act:
> “You know, some people have differences of opinion, depending on your party, about the CHOOSE Act, or at least people being able to choose where their children go. I certainly support anybody making those decisions—parents—about where their children should go. But if it compromises the money going towards the public school system, I have a problem with that. We're seeing a lot of failing schools in Alabama.”
The Democratic primary will be held next May 19th. So far, other than Dr. Boyd, Chad Chig Martin and the 2022 nominee Yolanda Flowers are the only announced candidates.
