Back during the 1992 Democratic Presidential primaries, then-candidate Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton drew chuckles when he was asked if he smoked marijuana, making the laughable claim that "I smoked but I didn't inhale."
Fast forward to Alabama politics in 2025: on the most recent episode of the BCS: State of Alabama podcast, the 2022 Democratic gubernatorial nominee and 2026 candidate for governor Yolanda Flowers needed no prodding to admit she huffed gas and paint as a teenager.
While answering a question from co-host Brandon Moseley on the cannabis legislation passed last session, she admitted this, saying,
> "When we was going in school, and we would spray—I'm telling myself—spray some, what is it? Paint, spray paint, and then sniff it. Be high as a kite, okay? Gasoline—we were about to kill ourselves."
In addition to that admission, she believes people should be able to grow their own marijuana, saying,
> "This is an herb that we should be able to—we can raise in our own garden, just like you do parsley or, you know, oregano."
She continued,
> "I'm just saying, all you had to do—just listen to Miss Flowers. Allow people just to raise their marijuana, which is a natural herb, which would take care of you."
> And, "All the herbs God gave us are for medicinal purposes. It's good for the healing of the body and of the soul."
The Democratic primary will be held on May 19, 2026. Flowers will face Chad Chig Martin and Dr. Will Boyd.
