Vice President Harris is trailing with a critical demographic that Joe Biden won in 2020. The last president, after years of public virulence, is feeling the scorn of Catholic voters.
“Kamala has definitely been impacted negatively by a lack of support from Catholic voters,” stated GOP strategist Ryan Girdusky, a Catholic. “She’s polling worse than Joe Biden among a very important demographic. They are the largest single church in America; the Catholic vote will help decide the presidency.”

Last month, a Pew Research Center poll showed that Harris was underwater with Catholic voters, trailing Donald Trump 52% to 47%. In 2020, President Biden, a Catholic, defeated Trump with the same numbers, according to exit polls from The Washington Post. Harris's poll numbers are similar to Hillary Clinton's, who lost 45% to 52% in 2020.
The survey also found that Catholics make up 25% of the electorate in Pennsylvania and Nevada. In Arizona, 21%, and 18% in Michigan.
She further alienated herself from Catholic voters when she announced last month her intentions to skip the Al Smith dinner. Attendance at this roast has been a long-standing tradition among presidential nominees. It is notable to mention Walter Mondale is the last candidate not to show.
Harris, a Baptist and whose husband is Jewish, displayed her hostility towards Catholics when serving on the Senate Judiciary Committee. She interrogated Brain Buescher, a judicial nominee for the US District Court in Nebraska, about his membership in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal and charitable organization.
The senator, demanding an answer pressed Buacher, "Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a woman’s right to choose when you joined the organization? Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed marriage equality when you joined the organization?”
Harris, along with other Democratic senators, were rebuked by Josh Hawley for their actions during Justice Amy Comey Barrett, also a Catholic, Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
"Senator Harris and others on this committee have repeatedly questioned judicial nominees fitness for office because of their membership in the Knights of Columbus,” he admonished.
A report from the House Judiciary Committee found that while serving as Vice President, the Biden-Harris administration targeted traditional Catholics by weaponizing federal law enforcement.
The FBI singled out Americans who are pro-life, pro-family, and support the biological basis for sex and gender distinction as potential domestic terrorists,” the findings concluded, noting that the feds had even tried to turn “Catholic clergy and church leadership” into informants.
“What is really at issue is that Democrats want to support Catholics who follow the teachings of the Democratic Party and suppress Catholics who follow the teachings of the Catholic Church,” said Chad C. Pecknold, a professor at The Catholic University of America.
“When a political party becomes itself a pseudo-religion, we shouldn’t be surprised in how it governs.”
