Micah Messer, a candidate for the AL House District 38 special election, picked up a key endorsement last week from the National Association for Gun Rights.
Messer, who has had a distinguished military and law enforcement career, has been an outspoken advocate for the rights of gun owners. Supporting Constitutional Carry—a law that gave Alabama citizens the ability to exercise their Second Amendment right to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.
Speaking on the endorsement, Messer said,
"The National Association for Gun Rights is a no-compromise 2nd Amendment organization that believes, like I do, that our rights are granted by God, protected by the U.S. Constitution against government infringement. Receiving the endorsement from NAGR is truly an honor. I will not falter in protecting the rights of Alabamians and the people of District 38."
Receiving this crucial endorsement gives his campaign credence and will bolster his standing over his rivals among red-meat Republicans.
Messer is making his second run for this seat. In 2022, he pushed incumbent Representative Debbie Wood in the GOP primary, capturing 43% of the vote. Wood resigned her seat last summer when she moved to Florida, paving the way for Messer to make another bid.
The primary will be held on October 28. Messer is facing Garrett Dixon and Kristen Nelson. If no one captures a majority of the votes, the run-off will be held November 18, followed by the general election on February 3rd.
