TALLAPOOSA COUNTY, AL — Robert McCollum, a Republican candidate for the Tallapoosa County Commission, District 4, has officially placed infrastructure at the forefront of his campaign. McCollum is calling for a more aggressive and proactive approach to maintaining county roads and rights-of-way, arguing that the current state of local infrastructure directly impacts public safety and taxpayer value.
Infrastructure as a Lifeline
McCollum emphasizes that road quality is a fundamental service that affects every resident's daily life. From the morning school commute to the rapid response of emergency vehicles, he views the county’s transportation network as a vital lifeline.
“Our county roads are not just lines on a map—they’re how our families get to work, how our kids get to school, and how emergency services reach people in need,” McCollum stated.
Safety Through Better Upkeep
A primary concern raised by McCollum is the neglect of rights-of-way. Overgrown vegetation and poorly managed shoulders often lead to:
Reduced Visibility: Obstructed views at curves and intersections.
Drainage Issues: Clogged ditches that lead to standing water and road erosion.
Increased Costs: Delayed maintenance that turns simple fixes into expensive reconstruction projects.
A Proactive Policy
If elected, McCollum intends to shift the county’s strategy toward preventive maintenance. This includes regular mowing cycles and clearing of rights-of-way to ensure safe driving conditions and preserve the integrity of the asphalt.
“As commissioner, I will advocate for a proactive maintenance approach,” McCollum said. “That means regular mowing, clearing, and upkeep of rights-of-way, along with responsible road maintenance that addresses problems before they become expensive repairs.”
Commitment to District 4
Running as a fiscal conservative, McCollum believes that responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars starts with maintaining existing assets. He remains committed to listening to the concerns of District 4 residents—which includes areas like Dadeville, Camp Hill, and Dudleyville—to ensure their voices guide the commission's infrastructure priorities.
