Alarm bells are going off inside the Steve Marshall campaign after a recent poll conducted by McLaughlin and Associates revealed some disappointing numbers for the Senate hopeful.
In the survey conducted July 14-17 with 600 likely Republican voters in next year's May primary, the two-term Attorney General showed much stronger name recognition, coming in with 80%, than his two likely opponents: three-term AL House District 1 Congressman Barry Moore's 56% and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson's 39%, respectively.
However, he only pulled a surprisingly low 35% support, and almost half, 44%, were undecided. Marshall is not overly popular, with only 47% of respondents viewing him favorably. Not a ringing endorsement for an incumbent who has run two statewide campaigns.
Almost a quarter a voters chose either Moore, who garnered 12%, or Hudson, who received 9%.This internal poll, paid for by the Marshall campaign, has a ±4-point margin of error.
There is still almost a year to go before the voters choose who will be the next Alabama Junior senator, but Marshall's paltry numbers, coupled with his inability to fundraise, show this race is wide open, and we could see another candidate emerge.
