Brent Woodall Challenges Incumbent Beeker for Alabama PSC Place 2

Staff Writer January 24, 2026

TUSCUMBIA, AL — Tuscumbia attorney Brent Woodall has officially entered the race for Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC) Place 2, launching a primary challenge against appointed incumbent Chris Beeker.

Woodall, a lifelong conservative with four years of experience as a former PSC Chief of Staff, argues the current commission has failed its mission to balance utility company interests with consumer affordability. Citing reports that Alabama faces the third-highest utility bills in the country, Woodall criticized the commission’s recent decision to freeze rates at their current levels.

"Freezing rates at historically high levels does not equate to providing affordable utility services," Woodall stated. He characterized the incumbent's performance as lacking the necessary experience and commitment, noting that Beeker was appointed to the seat following his father's resignation.

With a professional background as an Assistant Attorney General and Assistant United States Attorney, Woodall is positioning himself as the "experienced conservative" choice. He promises to work as diligently for ratepayers as for the utility companies the agency regulates.

The Republican Primary is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19.
