Derek Chen Secures Key Endorsement from the Manufacturers Association in Historic Bid for Alabama State Auditor

By Christopher M. Peeks October 7, 2025

In the latest election news in Alabama politics, Attorney Derek Chen—on his quest to become the next Alabama State Auditor—picked up another key endorsement today, this time from the Manufacturers Association.

The association released the following statement:

“Manufacture Alabama endorses Derek Chen because he understands that accountability and transparency are essential to an effective state government for the people of Alabama,” said Jon Barganier, president of Manufacture Alabama. “Derek’s commitment to responsible stewardship and his passion for public service are a welcome addition to the growing list of the next generation of leaders in Alabama. We’re pleased to offer him our full endorsement for State Auditor.”

Chen, a graduate of Cumberland School of Law, had this to say about receiving the support of the Manufacturers Association:

“Manufacture Alabama’s endorsement means a great deal because their members know how damaging inefficiency and waste can be,” said Chen. “In the private sector, you cannot afford to lose track of resources or operate without accountability. State government should be no different. As Auditor, I will make sure Alabamians get a clear, honest accounting of how their assets are managed.”

Chen, in his historic bid to become the first Taiwanese American officeholder in Alabama history, has picked up several crucial endorsements of late—first from the Forestry Association, then the Alabama Electric Cooperatives PAC, ALFA Farm PAC, and Dadeville businessman Robert McCollum, who withdrew from the race to focus on flipping a Democrat-held commission seat red in Tallapoosa County.

As of now, Chen’s only opponent in next year’s May GOP primary is Josh Pendergrass.
