​After campaigning for Secretary of State for more than a year, Sorrell may have gotten himself into a pickle by his decision. Chen, in his historic bid to become the first Taiwanese American officeholder in Alabama history, has picked up several crucial endorsements of late—first from the Forestry Association, then the Alabama Electric Cooperatives PAC, ALFA Farm PAC, and Dadeville businessman Robert McCollum, who withdrew from the race to focus on flipping a Democrat-held commission seat red in Tallapoosa County.

Now the next two picks conjure visions of 30 pieces of silver, with ALFA betraying Senator Jack Williams, who is running for Agriculture Commissioner, and putting the knife in the back of current Ag Commissioner Rick Pate, who is seeking to be the next Lieutenant Governor. Instead, ALFA chose Chip Hill over Williams and Secretary of State Wes Allen over Pate, respectively.

Chen, seeking to be the first Taiwanese American elected to office in Alabama, has also received backing from the Forestry Association, the Electric Cooperatives of Alabama, as well as former candidate Robert McCollum, who withdrew to run for a commissioner seat in Tallapoosa County,

In a statement, McCollum said, "After careful consideration, I am withdrawing from the State Auditor's race and will instead direct my time and effort towards winning this long-held Democratic commission seat in the fourth district. Chen is a Vestavia Hills attorney with a background in law and business, having earned degrees from Hope College, Samford University's Cumberland School of Law, and the University of Alabama.
