Meet Alabama State Auditor Candidate Derek Chen
Derek Chen, Alabama State Auditor candidate, appeared on The BCS State of Alabama podcast with Brandon Moseley and me on May 2, 2025. To say I came away impressed is an understatement. Mr. Chen is quite an individual.
A Class Act
For starters, I found him to be one of the nicest, most polite, humble people I have ever met. Very well-spoken, listening to his articulated answers, one would think him to be a seasoned politician instead of being only 27 years old. His engaging personality will play well with voters.
Amazing Story
What will strike more of a chord with the electorate is his family's history. His grandparents fought in General It Chang Kai Shek's army. After the Communists took over, Mr. Chen's family emigrated to Taiwan. A first-generation American, born in Southern California, he made his way to Alabama after going to school in Michigan. He attended Samford Law School and made Alabama his home.
Its Personal
Knowing the dangers of communism, saying "We are only one generation away from losing our freedoms," and his family migrating the "right way," stopping the Democrats' Marxist ideology of open borders is a must for him. As is taking a hard-line approach against the Chinese government. No doubt the people of Alabama will respond positively.
The American Dream
Derek Chen is the embodiment of what it means to be an American and live the life the rest of the world would give anything for. Not only that, he shares Alabama's conservative values. We are lucky to have him participating in our state's political process.
GOP Primary
So far, he and perennial candidate Robert McCollum are the only two announced candidates in next year's midterm elections for the state auditor position.
