Mo Brooks Fires Warning Shot at GOP Rivals: Calls Them Mellow, Says ‘We Need Fighters’ as 2026 Senate Bid Looks More Likely

On the latest podcast of The BCS: State of Alabama, with co-host Brandon Moseley, former Alabama House District 5 Congressman Mo Brooks made clear that he is moving closer to making another bid for the U.S. Senate in 2026.

Brooks, who lost previous races in 2017, and 2022 stated that he plans to make a final decision after the first of the year. When asked if he was still eyeing the race, he said:

> “I'm still considering it. You know, I'm more likely to run today than I was a month ago, but I'm still not in the probable gonna run stage.”

As par for the course, the shoot-from-the-hip Brooks offered a sharp rebuke of his perceived softness of his would-be opponents, declaring:

> “They're all good people, but they're all somewhat mellow. And I think we need hard knocks fighters in the United States Senate—people who can go toe to toe with the Democrats, not just in the halls of the United States Senate, not just in the Senate chamber, but also in the news media and help the public better understand why what the Republicans want to do is best for our country.”

Privately, some GOP officials feel that by waiting so late to get in the race, Brooks will have trouble fundraising. But others have expressed the belief that Brooks may be in contact with his past donors, telling them to hold off until the first of the year. If that is the case, the longtime politician could raise substantial funds, making him competitive in the already crowded field. Combined with his name recognition and base of support, Brooks would be a very formidable candidate.

The GOP primary for next year’s midterm elections will be held on May 19.
