Natural Born Hypocrisy: Wes Allen’s War on Immigrant Representation

By Christopher M Peeks November 03, 2025

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen’s racist legislation—allowing only American-born citizens to serve in statewide office—has found two lieutenants in the Senate and House to sponsor his ludicrous, xenophobic bill. Senator Donnie Chesteen and Representative Rhett Marques are seeking to push it through both chambers.

Like a submarine captain running his vessel ashore on a beach, Larry, Moe, and Curly are going full steam ahead.

No one should be surprised at Wes Allen pushing this type of egregious bill. Remember, when Allen served in the legislature, he sponsored a bill banning curbside voting. For those unfamiliar, curbside voting meant people with disabilities and mobility issues could have a poll worker bring their ballot to them, allowing them to fill it out while the poll worker returned it. Good job, Secretary Allen! You should still feel so proud of disenfranchising disabled people.

So let’s keep count: you’ve now made it harder for disabled people to vote, and you want only natural-born citizens to be able to hold statewide office in Alabama. What’s next? Do you want to repeal the 14th Amendment and take citizenship away from Black Alabamians?

Why is Allen pushing for this measure? Does he not understand that he is now the chief elections officer and no longer in the legislature?

This is pure election grandstanding by a desperate politician—like a drowning man attempting to keep his head above water.

Secretary Allen, if you’re going to propose legislation, why don’t you consider doing something that will help Alabamians instead of your disgusting race-baiting? We deserve better.
