Folks, this is not even going to be close. Pate, according to the last finance reports, has enough money to compete; when you put the two together, it is a no-brainer. You’ve got a down-home country boy that everyone can relate to versus an entitled little brat who gets his feelings hurt at every turn.

The daddy’s boy would not even be where he is had his father not persuaded former Governor Bob Riley to promote him as probate judge in 2009. He likes to brag about his judicial experience on the campaign trail, but that is another story for another day.

No one should be surprised at Wes Allen pushing this type of egregious bill. Remember, when Allen served in the legislature, he sponsored a bill banning curbside voting. For those unfamiliar, curbside voting meant people with disabilities and mobility issues could have a poll worker bring their ballot to them, allowing them to fill it out while the poll worker returned it. Good job, Secretary Allen! You should still feel so proud of disenfranchising disabled people.

On what planet does Allen imagine someone not born in the United States winning an election in Alabama? And exactly what voting bloc is he trying to appeal to with this? In retrospect, does his racist xenophobia not risk alienating level-headed Republicans—those who don’t view individuals who came to this country and became citizens the right way as the enemy? Just a few weeks ago, Allen appeared to be the front-runner to succeed outgoing Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth. After today, that’s out the window like a swirling McDonald’s hamburger wrapper. Gone with the wind. McCarron is now under center.

Furthermore, did Alabama's election security not drop to second place under your watch—after previously being ranked the most secure in the nation under former Secretary of State John Merrill? And how did you lead the charge against puberty blockers and sex change procedures on minors in our state while serving as Chief Elections Officer?

Those pics had to be a wake-up call for Allen—like a cold shower in January. Startling, jolting, and eye-opening. Allen already faces problems running against Rick Pate. Everybody likes the Commissioner. He is as lovable as buttered cornbread with fried chicken after Sunday go-to-meeting.

Now the next two picks conjure visions of 30 pieces of silver, with ALFA betraying Senator Jack Williams, who is running for Agriculture Commissioner, and putting the knife in the back of current Ag Commissioner Rick Pate, who is seeking to be the next Lieutenant Governor. Instead, ALFA chose Chip Hill over Williams and Secretary of State Wes Allen over Pate, respectively.

Political insiders who spoke to me on condition of anonymity said Senator Jack Williams, in his bid for Agriculture Commissioner, and current commissioner Rick Pate, who is running for lieutenant governor—both of whom, on paper, were obvious choices for the Farmers Federation—were deemed “too old.”

With a Mo Brooks candidacy looking more and more likely in the 2026 Senate race, bringing the number to five candidates seeking to be the next junior Senator from Alabama, does Merrill really want to try to run that gauntlet?

I don't know if this is a gimmick to try to win support, but Wes Allen needs to stop running his mouth. We already saw him look foolish starting a public spat with former Secretary of State John Merrill a few months ago, leaving him with egg on his face.
