The Copperhead in the Capitol: Wes Allen’s Cowardly Betrayal of Alabama Voters

By Christopher M Peeks March 05, 2026

Like a copperhead slithering through new grass on a warm March morning, Secretary of State Wes Allen struck like a venomous reptile at unsuspecting prey. 1819 News recently discovered that his campaign bankrolled a legal challenge to remove former GOP chairman John Wahl from the ballot due to residency issues.

When this surfaced, Allen withdrew from a scheduled debate, shrinking like a frightened turtle while claiming that the outlet had never invited him. Only days prior, this individual—whose father arranged for him to be a walk-on at the University of Alabama—bragged about what Coach Gene Stallings taught him regarding winning. Instead, he revealed a deep-seated fear of competition.

Allen even went as far as lying in a Facebook comment, asserting he lacked an invitation after 1819 News' Brian Dawson posted proof that he reneged on attending. Rather than letting the people decide, the chief elections officer sought to strip away the public’s right to choose by having Wahl ousted.

This serves as a testament to the hollow conservative principles he espouses, exposing the liberal values he previously demonstrated by voting to raise state gas taxes. Allen has proved he will do anything to stay in power. On May 19th, Alabama voters must remember: you cannot trust a snake with your future.
