As we are going down the stretch in the 2026 primary election season in Alabama, the electorate is faced with many options to ponder in the upcoming races. The candidates selected by the voters will lead the state into the next decade.
Whoever comes out on top in the Lieutenant Governor's contest will very likely be the frontrunner to succeed Tommy Tuberville when he hangs up his political cleats.
Alabamians have a diverse lot to consider in that particular field. When making that decision on May 19th, citizens must ask themselves what they want in a leader. Do they want someone with principles? Integrity? Morals? A Lieutenant Governor who will serve the public instead of their own self-interest?
If the populace values those qualities, then the last candidate on that list is Secretary of State Wes Allen.
Allen is void of any redeeming qualities. He has proven this time and time again—from his public dispute with former Secretary of State John Merrill last spring, now to his dishonest, underhanded attacks against John Wahl.
Not only did he secretly finance the challenge to have Wahl removed from the ballot due to residency issues, he is now falsely accusing him of celebrating Ramadan simply for attending an interfaith gathering. This is not surprising, considering his bigotry when he proposed a bill to prevent naturalized citizens from holding office.
Allen, a despicable little miscreant, will stop at no cost to get elected. This man does not possess the type of honor we need to serve as Lieutenant Governor. We deserve better than an individual lacking such basic ethical standards. Hopefully, after May 19th, Wes Allen will be a footnote in Alabama political history after his defeat at the ballot box.
